Feminism: It makes sense

Hi, I'm Hope.
I'm 20 and from England. :)
Currently I'm doing an English Literature and Journalism degree.

I'm a feminist and proud, working against patriarchy and towards a more equal future. Or possibly just reblogging other feminists and pointing to their important points.

We didn’t want to aim our publication specifically at women as we didn’t want to limit the type of content we could provide.

- Two women in my Journalism class. During a presentation about a publication they have to put together.

This idea that women only like certain things and men like certain, different, things is a very damaging one in our culture. But it is so deeply ingrained that we see the gender binary in every aspect of our lives.

It’s really disappointing to think that these women, who are very intelligent, still cannot see the problem with this statement simply because they are so blinded by their own culture. They could write about any topic and it could still be aimed at and written for women because women everywhere like all different things. Why must we feel limited by our gender?

And what about those people who fall somewhere between or outside of the gender binary? Our culture regulates them to the position of ‘the other’ where they are either ignored or mocked.

It’s so painful that this is such a part of our culture that it is completely normalised and seemingly entirely invisible to the majority of people.
