Feminism: It makes sense

I’ve been watching a lot of Big Bang Theory..

Howard really really really pisses me off. They’re trying to play him as a stereotype and not something to aspire to, but he is never properly reprimanded for his horrible sexist behaviour it is always played for laughs.

For example there is an episode where Howard and Raj are flying kites in the park. Howard thinks a girl who is jogging smiles at him, he proceeds to RUN AFTER HER. This is not right. Raj get’s annoyed with him, not for RUNNING AFTER A GIRL ON THE STREET, but for being a ‘sucky friend and abandoning him’ the running after a girl is played for laughs. Also we are shown that Howard doesn’t even learn his friendship lesson in this episode, let alone a lesson about treating women correctly. He and Raj are sitting on a bench and they see a girl run past them. Again Howard thinks she smiled at him and Raj encourages him to CHASE HER DOWN THE STREET. Ok, Raj calls him a ‘douche’ but this behaviour is not truly addressed as wrong. It is played for laughs, because chasing a woman down the street because she might have smiled at you is FUNNY guys!

Also in another episode Howard and Raj find the location of the Top Model House, through the use of google maps and top secret spy satellites. This is described as creepy by other characters in the episode but in the end they actually get into the house. The women do not bat an eyelid. This should NOT have happened. I know this is a fantasy but I think they should have been severely reprimanded in the show for basically breaking into a house full of unsuspecting women. All of whom Howard refers to as ‘The Future Mrs Wollowitz’. They are rewarded for their very deeply wrong behaviour, it’s FUNNY guys! What should have happened (and would have been funnier) is the girls slammed the door in their face because this is wrong.

There is SO MUCH other stuff but I can’t get into it now..
