Comedian Katy Brand dancing to Beyonce’s Single ladies
There’s a new lets dance for comic relief on in the UK! Where a load of personalities, from sports, TV and comedy, dress up in silly outfits and dance to well known songs to raise money for charity. It’s all done with a horrendously funny tone and is hilarious.
I was re-watching my favourite dances from previous years and just had to watch the Katy Brand dance again. She is fantastic! But I was shocked by the comments, it was all about her size. Though some thankfully called it sexy many others contained body policing, fat shaming and comments about ‘not glorifing obesity’.
Personally I had never really considered her weight to be something to focus on here, I was looking at her dancing and the comedy. But if you must focus on her weight it shows young girls that they can be any size and still dance, be sexy and hilarious at the same time. Brand is so confident in her leotard and that is a brilliant message. You don’t often see women who are fat dancing sexily or doing anything like this in the mainstream media and I think it is positive.
